Varje gång ett nytt krig blossar upp i världen är det viktigt att påminna om vad Hans Küng brukar säga
“There will be no peace among the nations without peace among the religions. There will be no peace among the religions without dialogue among the religions.”
Katolska kyrkans i mitt tycke idag mest framstående teolog och tillika präst är Hans Küng, en gång kollega till kardinal Ratzinger – vår nuvarande påve – och initiativtagare till stiftelsen Global Etik, som tar fasta på hur vi människor måste lära oss hur den gyllene regeln ska kunna fås att omfatta alla människor från alla världens alla religioner. Och även de som står utanför dessa.
1979 fråntogs Hans Küng sin befogenhet att undervisa som katolsk teolog pga sin bok Infallible? An Inquiry(1971). Hans Küng forsatte dock sin undervisning på Universitetet i Tübingen som professor i ekumenisk teologi fram till sin pensionering 1996.
Hans Küng hade det stora modet att satsa hela sin status som katolsk teolog genom att sätta ett frågetecken efter Ofelbar?
2002 beskriver Hans Küng i The Catholic Church: A Short History “In 1979 I then had personal experience of the Inquisition under another pope. My permission to teach was withdrawn by the church, but nevertheless I retained my chair and my institute (which was separated from the Catholic faculty). For two further decades I remained unswervingly faithful to my church in critical loyalty, and to the present day I have remained professor of ecumenical theology and a Catholic priest in good standing. I affirm the papacy for the Catholic Church, but at the same time indefatigably call for a radical reform of it in accordance with the criterion of the gospel.”
2005 skrev Hans Küng en kritisk artikel om arvet efter Johannes Paulus II ”The failures of Pope Wojtyla ”
“This Papacy has repeatedly declared its fidelity to Vatican II, in order to then betray it for reasons of political expediency. Council terms such as modernization, dialogue, and ecumenicalism’ have been replaced by emphasis on restoration, mastery, and obedience. The criteria for the nomination of Bishops is not at all in the spirit of the Gospel… Pastoral politics has allowed the moral and intellectual level of the episcopate to slip to dangerous levels. A mediocre, rigid, and more conservative episcopate will be the lasting legacy of this papacy.”
