“Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted of Phoenix has declared that St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, located in the diocese, can no longer call itself a Catholic hospital because of a dispute over whether a procedure performed at the hospital last year was a direct abortion.
”It is my duty to decree that, in the Diocese of Phoenix, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, CHW [Catholic Healthcare West] is not committed to following the teaching of the Catholic Church and therefore this hospital cannot be considered Catholic,” Olmsted said today in a news conference hosted by the diocese.”

PS Biskop Olmstedt var mycket mån om att syster Margaret Mc Bride ”KONFIDENTIELLT” fick reda på att hon ådragit sig exkommunikation.
Detta för att slippa känna sig ”offentligt generad.”
Man blir riktigt rörd över biskop Olmstedts ömsinta omtanke om sr Margaret Mc Bride.
För att inte tala om omtanken om alla patienter. I sin omsorg över att sjuka patienter inte ska invaggas i att tro att de vårdas på ett katolskt sjukhus har biskopen bestämt att mässa inte längre får firas i sjukhusets kapell och att nattvardstabernaklet ska avlägsnas därifrån.
Biskop Olmstedt har inte bara gjort sig förtjänt av bragdmedalj och MVG från Vatikanen. Kanske, kanske också att bli kardinal ?

Jag ser inte att någonting nytt skulle ha tillkommit. Allt löper vidare i de förutsägbara spåren.
Sjukhuset vill inte erkänna att de gjort fel, och biskopsämbetet fullföljer därför helt korrekt de mått och steg de aviserat.

”The controversial operation on an 11-week pregnant mother at a Phoenix hospital last year that caused the local bishop to excommunicate a Catholic woman religious and led him this week to declare the hospital no longer Catholic was not a direct abortion, according to a moral theologian called in to review the case.
”The mother and fetus were both in the process of dying … It was not a matter of choosing one life or the other. The child’s life, because of natural causes, was in the process of ending,” wrote theologian M. Therese Lysaught in a 24-page analysis of the medical procedure performed by St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in November 2009.
”On Nov. 5, 2009, the mother and fetus were both in the process of dying,” she said. ”Due to the age of the fetus, there was no possibility that it could survive outside the womb. Nor, due to the mother’s heart failure and cardiogenic shock, was there any possibility that the fetus could survive inside the womb. In short, in spite of the best efforts of the mother and of her medical staff, the fetus had become terminal, not because of a pathology of its own but because of a pathology in its maternal environment. There was no longer any chance that the life of this child could be saved. This is crucial to note insofar as it establishes that at the point of decision, it was not a case of saving the mother or the child. It was not a matter of choosing one life or the other. The child’s life, because of natural causes, was in the process of ending.”

PS Som katolik orkar man till slut bara gripas av en enda stor sorg vid läsningen av hårdheten hos en katolsk biskop och dennes DÖMANDE i detta tragiska fall.
För mig kommer det aldrig att gå att acceptera att läroämbetet anser sig ha legitimitet att år 2010 vilja tvinga medicinsk kompetent personal att AVSTÅ från att aktivt rädda en ung kvinnas liv fastän fostret hon bär på är dödsdömt oavsett vad som händer.
Ursäkta, men biskop Thomas Olmstedts agerande och bloggkommentatorers applåderande och ISKALLA konstaterande -”Allt löper vidare i de förutsägbara spåren”- får mig att börja reflektera över skillnaden mellan djur och människa ?

Jag tror inte att någon här kan ha något mer att säga till biskopens försvar. Han är ett exempel på katolska ledare när de är som mest omänskliga.
Brydde han sig egentligen om någons liv, eller handlade det bara om regler som ska följas? Hur hade han reagerat när både mor och foster val hade dött? Hade han känt någon skuld till det, eller bara ryckt på axlarna?
